Spanish

The aim of Primary Languages at St Paul's is to introduce the children to
languages and cultures in a fun and enjoyable way. Spanish is taught from Reception to Year 6 by class teachers and supported by the Spanish Coordinator who is a Spanish specialist teacher and speaker.

We use the Language Angels scheme of work which focuses on the 5 key elements of languages in the curriculum which are: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar. Alongside Spanish lessons, our aim is to be using Spanish spoken language throughout the school day to support daily routines, for example, when taking the lunch register and when asking the pupils to line up on the playground.

In addition we have several Spanish speaking members of staff and volunteers who join us throughout the year who will use incidental Spanish with the children through the school day.

We are in regular contact with our link school in Zaragoza and once a year in the Summer term we organise a visit with them where our year 6 pupils are able to put their daily language to the test and make some new friends in the process.
